Thank you, Captain Cool

Don’t you hate 2017 already? We do, too. The saddest news from the cricket world was delivered yesterday that has all our hearts broken into a million pieces. M S Dhoni, under whose captaincy India has won many world cups and series, steps down as the captain of ODI and T20 games. Leaving behind a legacy that’s going to be remembered till the end of time. While we wish Virat Kohli all the best for his future as the Indian captain, we’re definitely going to miss the man whose shoes Kohli has to fill.

Thank you, Captain Cool

We have a lot to be thankful for under MSD’s captaincy. From winning the T20 world cup in 2007 to the World Cup 2011, he has given us many reasons to rejoice every time we won a match. We will be saying more of him as a player, but not as a captain.

Thank you, Captain Cool

A country where cricket is considered as a religion, Dhoni was handed over the biggest responsibility any cricketer can get, and that is leading the team to victory. In every failure, he stood in front of all his teammates, facing criticism from fans, critics and media. The same Dhoni would be seen standing behind his team during celebrations. That’s how modest a human being he is.

Thank you, Captain Cool

Dhoni was a captain like none. Maintaining his calm in the most crucial situations was what he did throughout. In many matches we have seen him motivating the team from behind the stumps. In one of the matches, we could hear him say, “come on boys, sone ke liye bohot time milega baad mein.” Keeping it chill all the time is what earned him the nickname “Captain Cool”.

Thank you, Captain Cool

Like how every good thing has to end, MSD steps down as the leader allowing the future to take responsibility. This has devastated Indian cricket fans but it is the truth. We still get to see him play on the field as a team member under the leadership of Virat Kohli, and let’s just enjoy watching him be his best before that’s over too.

Thank you, Captain Cool

Thank you for everything Dhoni, thank you.
